When is the Toledo Repertoire Theatre reopening?

The rep has one more outdoor appearance before starting the new season indoors with a full audience.

TOLEDO, Ohio – For many, returning to “normal” after the pandemic meant sitting in a crowded arena and watching their favorite sport.

For others, it’s the chance to sit in a crowded theater and see a live performance.

The stage of the Toledo Repertoire Theater has seen a lot in nearly nine decades.

Now it’s the turn of a facelift.

“It was really nice to be able to do this renovation, but we really miss having shows on our own stage,” said Benjamin Jameson, Production Manager at Toledo Rep.

Surrounded by walls adorned with the names and thoughts of performers from past shows, it’s easy to feel the history of the space.

It’s a place they can return to with a full audience this September after having to hold their performances outdoors for more than a year.

“In addition to financial stability, it is energy. Just the energy that the performers feed from the audience, “said Bonnie Herrmann, Office Manager at the Rep.” The show is different every night based on the audience and their applause, and their laughter and excitement. “

Full-cast indoor shows are set to return in September at the start of the Rep’s new season, but they have one more outdoor show ahead of them, a teen-only Elvis Presley musical in Ottawa Park.

And while this show might get people to “All Shook Up,” the people who have gone above and beyond to keep the Rep alive over the last year are ready for a bit of stability.

“The Toledo Rep is actually the second oldest cultural arts program in the city of Toledo just after the Art Museum,” said Herrman, “so it means a lot – especially that we could keep this theater, let alone live theater, alive for all of this time. ”

The rep’s final all-outdoor show will be available to stream and watch in Ottawa Park on the first weekend of August.
