University of Toledo stadium to return to full capacity

TOLEDO, Ohio – Exciting news for Rockets fans: The Glass Bowl will return to full capacity for the football season.

After receiving the official ‘OK’ from the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department, the University of Toledo football players have the ‘normal’ 2021 season they were hoping for.

The Rockets played a shortened schedule with no fans last season … but this year the Glass Bowl is ready to welcome back more than 26,000 fans.

“I know everyone is excited to see our fans back in the glass bowl and if something like this goes back to normal it will surely help,” said O’Brien.

O’Brien said last year that only family members of players were allowed to enter the stadium, but this year the return of fans will add momentum to the team.

“It makes a difference in terms of the atmosphere itself. Whether it’s pre-game or tailgating, and once the game starts it has the following behind the Rockets,” said O’Brien.

As for what fans can expect, O’Brien said the school is doing everything in its power to ensure the experience is as normal as it was two years ago.

“People can be in the field now in terms of the band, the cheerleaders and the promotions. We expect things to be relatively normal and we expect a big fall,” said O’Brien.

The Rockets’ first home game is September 4th against Norfolk State.

Other autumn sports venues will also be fully utilized this season.
