DETROIT – Editor’s note: The above player’s video is from an earlier story.

The Detroit Tigers selected the slug infielder Chris Meyers from the University of Toledo in the 2021 MLB draft.

Meyers was chosen in the 13th round with the 375th overall pick.

In June he was named Player of the Year for the Mid-American Conference, the first rocket ever to receive the award.

Meyers won the MAC Triple Crown with 15 home runs, a school record, a .378 batting average, and 55 batted in runs. He becomes the league’s first Triple Crown winner since 1998.

He finished the season in 11th place in the country in percent and 16th in percent.

Meyers becomes the 47th player in program history to be drafted into the MLB. It’s the first rocket designed since Ross Adolph was selected by the New York Mets in the 2018 design.
