Toledo Police vehicle struck by motorist later charged with OVI

TOLEDO, Ohio – A Toledo police car was hit by a driver on Sunday as officers responded to another crash.

Officers Tyler Picking and Asher Coates were handling a separate incident on I-75 South near the Miami Street exit when their vehicle was hit from the back. The driver of the vehicle was Malik Hampton, 23, who was charged with OVI.

A loaded handgun was also found in the car and Hampton is also charged.

No one was injured in the incident. The official’s vehicle is out of service for repairs.

South-facing lanes of I-75 were closed for two hours.
