Toledo, Ohio – A University of Toledo soccer player was shot dead after a fight in a local pizzeria, authorities said.
22-year-old Jahneil Douglas was shot dead around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Authorities said there were two men involved in the fight and it was not immediately clear whether Douglas was involved or what caused the brawl.
No other casualties were reported and no arrests were made during the confrontation.
Douglas was preparing for his junior season with the Rockets. He was a defensive lineman who had played 12 games in two seasons, two tackles total.
In a statement posted on Twitter Wednesday morning, the school’s sports director Mike O’Brien said Douglas’ death was “a devastating loss to our football team and university, and a very sad day for all of us at Rocket Nation.”
