Toledo defensive lineman Jahneil Douglas fatally shot

TOLEDO, Ohio – A University of Toledo soccer player was shot and killed in a pizza place in town after fighting, authorities said.

Jahneil Douglas, 22, was shot dead Tuesday at around 11:30 p.m. and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Authorities said two men were involved in the fight and it was not immediately clear whether Douglas was involved or what caused the brawl.

No further injuries were reported during the confrontation and no arrests were made.

Douglas was preparing for his junior season with the Rockets. He was a defender who had played in two seasons in twelve games with a total of two tackles.

In a statement posted on Twitter Wednesday morning, the school’s sporting director Mike O’Brien said Douglas’ death was “a devastating loss to our football team and university, and a very sad day for all of us at Rocket Nation.”
