TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – The state of Buckeye will host six pro golf tournaments this summer, making 2021 the Summer of Golf. This list includes two events coming to Glass City: Dana’s LPGA Classic Marathon, which takes place July 5-11 at the Highland Meadows Golf Course, and the Solheim Cup at the Inverness Club, August 31-September 6 .
The Solheim Cup will feature some of the best female golfers in the world as teams from the US and Europe compete against each other and play for global bragging rights.
Tournament Director Becky Newell is working with health officials to ensure the tournament is run safely for everyone, including masks and social distancing.
“As we greet our fans from around the world, we want to make sure we are following protocol, that we are safe, and that we can celebrate the US, golf in northwest Ohio and golf in Ohio this fall. Says Newell.
To mark the occasion, the Ohio Development Services Agency launched the Ohio Professional Golf Trail this spring. According to director Lydia Mihalik, the trail includes locations across the state where golf fans and even non-fans can eat, stay, and play.
“We are very excited to present some of the best golf courses in the world,” says Mihalik. “These tournaments will highlight the state’s great golf courses and present our communities as travel destinations that visitors will want to return to again and again.”
Other tournaments include the PGA Memorial, which Nationwide is hosting from May 31 to June 6 in Columbus, the Bridgestone SENIOR PLAYERS Championship from June 23 to 27 in Akron, and the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship from June 23 to 29 August in Columbus.
