Ohio school district partners with Delta for aviation program

Delta Tech Ops is the largest airline maintenance, repair, and overhaul provider in North America. Partnering with TPS provides valuable skills for students.

TOLEDO, Ohio – A new partnership takes Toledo Public Schools students to new heights.

The Toledo Aerospace and Science Academy works with Delta Airlines.

Delta Tech Ops is the largest airline maintenance, repair, and overhaul provider in North America. The partnership between the airline and TPS offers students an unparalleled learning experience.

“Our students will now be at Delta Airlines with the latest technology, education, training, internship and potential employment,” said TPS Superintendent Dr. Romules Durant.

This partnership offers TPS students the opportunity to receive specific flight training. At the same time, employees receive continuous learning from industry experts.

According to Durant, this partnership is only the second of its kind in the United States. The other is in New York City.

“NYC is one of the major aviation industry hubs logistically in the world, and here in Toledo we compete with them,” said Durant.

11th grade student Logan Nidek says he wants to become a mechanic at Delta Main Center one day, so he’s excited to have this unique, hands-on experience.

“They’ll also give us equipment so we can learn how their planes work, rather than just ours down here in our building,” Nidek said.

With the education they receive, students will become fully certified in airframe and power plant mechanics. This usually costs around $ 50,000 but is completely free for students because of this partnership.

“This partnership with Delta gives us more opportunities and things to practice so that we can improve for the future,” said Nidek.

According to TPS, Delta Tech Ops is one of the world’s most experienced providers with more than 90 years of experience in the aviation industry.
