Michigan high school seniors find a way to celebrate prom — in Ohio

Holly – After a year like no other, the kids at Grand Blanc High were ready to dance. And if they had to go all the way to Ohio to do it, it was goodbye Michigan hello Toosie Slide.

The students traveled 105 miles on Saturday to attend their prom in a ballroom at the Toledo hotel.

A hotel ballroom in Toledo may not be the Paradise Club in New York. But after Homecoming was canceled, classes were limited to Zoom and frolic with friends was forbidden, all because of the COVID-19 pandemic, this has been a fantastic journey into the light.

Grand Blanc High School seniors and their dates are sitting in one of several buses outside River Church in Holly on Saturday, waiting to be taken to their private prom in Ohio.

“I’m glad we can finally do something after the year we’ve had,” said Senior Quinn Hilliker.

The students’ parents were also dizzy.

“It’s great. It’s spectacular,” said Matt Morrish, whose daughter Faith was there. “The kids worked so hard for it. They deserve it.”
