Market Garden Brewery expands distribution to Northwest Ohio

Market Garden Brewery expanded its distribution to Toledo and the Northwest Ohio region effective November 4th.

The expansion marks the first new distribution market for the Cleveland brewery since it began shipping beers to Columbus in January 2017.

It’s partnered with NWO Beverage for the latest addition.

The company now sells most of Ohio except for the Dayton / Greater Cincinnati / Southwest Ohio area – although those markets could be added later, said co-founder Mike Foran. He stressed that there was no rush to bring new markets online and that the focus remains on gaining market share in the established regions of Ohio.

“I think the goal has always been to go a mile instead of an inch,” said Foran, adding, “Our growth in Cleveland and Columbus has been enormous. My focus for the organization has always been to make sure we are exemplary Beer and attention to these markets first and foremost before expanding into subsequent markets. “

That first week in the Toledo market includes Citramax IPA, the seasonal Festivus Holiday Ale (made by Andy Tveekrem, former master brewer at Great Lakes Brewing Co. who made the company’s first Christmas ale recipe) and Prosperity Wheat – the No. 1 selling style, which won a gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival 2019 in the category Hefeweizen in southern German style (the list of GABF award winners can be found here).

Foran said the company is on track to produce 8,000 barrels in 2019. This corresponds to an increase in annual production of 20% and is six times as high as in 2015. This increase was made possible by a few additional extensions in his brewhouse. Foran said there are plans to add a few more fermentation tanks in 2020, which will also increase capacity.

Market Garden opened its taproom / brewery in Ohio City in 2011.
