Family to Build a Sanctuary to Honor Adam Toledo

– – The family of Adam Toledo, the 13-year-old who was shot dead by a Chicago police officer, are planning to build a sanctuary in his honor. The family said they want to build a place in rural Wisconsin where boys at risk can go downtown to escape gang and street violence situations. The announcement was made on Adam’s 14th birthday. His family said he didn’t deserve to die like him.

ESMERALDA TOLEDO: Adam was 13 years old. He deserves to be here now celebrating his 14th birthday with his friends and family. He was a kid just learning his way around the world, and he deserved a chance to make mistakes and learn from them.

– – In late March, Adam and a 21-year-old man he was with were followed by police after gunshots were reportedly fired. Body camera footage shows Adam being followed by an officer, and he was shot a second after the gun was dropped. This case is still being investigated.
