Toledo Residential Rentals and Lead Safety Compliance Act requires rental properties to be registered with Lucas County Auditors by June 30th.
“We are reminding rental property owners to register with the county auditor before Wednesday June 30th,” said Stephanie Beebe, the city’s senior coordinator for the Toledo Department of Neighborhoods. “This is a simple process that can be completed online on the auditor’s website.”

The Lead Safety Act requires that rental properties with four or fewer units built before 1978 and family children’s homes built before 1978 must receive lead safe certificates. The law provides for a five-year compliance schedule, with the first and most vulnerable properties required to be certified by June 30, 2022, and all of them to achieve compliance by December 31, 2026.
“We would also like to remind the Toledoans of the city’s support program, which aims to help owners comply with regulations,” Beebe said. “The Early Bird Matching Grant offers owners an incentive to comply with the five-year introduction of the law early on in order to improve the health and well-being of tenants and avoid fines.”
The grant is funded by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (Community Development Block Grant). Qualified Owners can receive up to 50 percent of certain costs to meet legal requirements as a refundable matching grant, up to a maximum of $ 5,000 per unit.
